Sustainable Development
Vision
Rocky Mountaineer Vacations will become an industry leader in developing, implementing and advocating innovative and sustainable tourism policies and programs.
Overview
An increasing number of organizations of all sizes, private and public have recognized the business need for developing and implementing sustainable practices. More commonly referred to as a ‘Triple Bottom Line’, sustainable development encompasses economic development, social responsibility and protecting the environment.
A recent Globescan/HP Canada survey reported that 92% of Canadians surveyed said the more socially and environmentally responsible a company is, the more likely they are to purchase their products or services. This attitude extends to employment as well: 91% of those surveyed prefer to work for a company that is socially and environmentally responsible – the more responsible it is, the stronger the drive to work for that company.
Key Goals
The sustainable development vision will be achieved by accomplishing five goals:
1. Contribute to the economic and social well being of the key communities in which we travel through leading to developing positive long term relationships with key community stakeholders.
2. Take significant steps to protect the environment we travel through and contribute to the protection of Canada’s natural resources.
3. Develop programs and policies that support and acknowledge the history of Canada’s heritage in the regions in which our businesses operate.
4. Support and enhance employee retention programs that allow RMV to recruit, hire and retain the best employees – be a company of choice in the tourism sector.
5. Educate our staff, guests and suppliers about our sustainability goals and objectives and encourage their participation. Be a role model in the North American tourism sector for sustainability goals and objectives and participate in the mentoring of other organizations.
