“I’ve been with Rocky Mountaineer Vacations since day one,” says Dennis Zaffino, the owner of Jasper-based Tags catering services. “We’ve grown alongside them - their first year was my first year.” Zaffino first met with Rocky Mountaineer Vacations back in 1990 when the company was looking for a local caterer to supply the inaugural Rocky Mountaineer Jasper to Vancouver route. To Zaffino’s delight, newly formed Tags was one of just five local businesses

asked to bid on the contract. A confident Zaffino put together a proposal that showcased high quality products and superior preparation. Though his price was far from the lowest, the Rocky Mountaineer Vacations team was swayed by Zaffino’s unrelenting commitment to the quality of his products.

To this day, Zaffino continues to impress guests and staff who work onboard the Rocky Mountaineer. As a local supplier, generating 4,500 meals per month and keeping it varied – signature dishes include baked salmon and coconut crusted tilapia – is demanding. But Zaffino thrives on customer feedback, refreshing his offerings each year and altering menus up to two or three times a season.  “Quality is always foremost,” says Zaffino.
