Armstrong Group is making a concerted effort to support communities in the regions through which we operate. Every year, we donate hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of trips to local charity fundraisers and other initiatives.  And we recognize our employees for volunteerism within their communities.

In Vancouver, Armstrong Group has taken an active role to improve the lives of families struggling with poverty. Working with the not-for-profit Union Gospel Mission, our employees raise funds for families through annual fundraising activities such as ‘jeans days,’ as well as responding to more immediate needs within the community.

Another Vancouver organization that we support is A Loving Spoonful, a volunteer-driven, non-partisan society that provides free nutritious meals to people living with

HIV in the Greater Vancouver area.  Armstrong Group employees provide Christmas hampers and donate money each year from events like our annual “dunk tank” and “denim days”. Gray Line West provides transportation for A Loving Spoonful’s annual picnic.

In Kamloops, Rocky Mountaineer Vacations is pleased to support the Kamloops Community YMCA, an organization that works with people of all backgrounds, abilities and circumstances. For several years running, we’ve been a supporter and prize sponsor of the Kamloops Community YMCA YWCA Dream Home Lottery Program, by donating an exciting vacation package.  And Peter Casement, our Vice President of Operations is a valued volunteer member of the YMCA YWCA’s Board of Directors.

In Quesnel, the onboard crew of the Rocky Mountaineer travelling on the Fraser Discovery Route presented a cheque for $1,500 to the Big Brothers and Big Sisters. Glen Petruk, the Train Operations Coordinator for the route, worked with his team to collect all of the refundable soft drink cans and water bottles from the trains.  Glen personally cleaned them, took them to the recycling depot and then worked with the members of the onboard crew to select an appropriate charity.

In 100 Mile House, Armstrong Group supported an important community event by providing motorcoach transportation for the young athletes participating in the 2006 BC Winter Games.

We even extend our social commitment to communities overseas through our involvement with Engineers Without Borders.  This Canadian charity is dedicated to reducing poverty around the world by helping people in developing countries gain access
to appropriate technology.  Canadian volunteers travel overseas to help local communities develop skills and tools that can reduce their poverty and suffering.  Armstrong Group has contributed enough money to Engineers Without Borders to cover the costs of a full-time volunteer for the next five years.

Closer to home, we assist a variety of non-profit organizations with direct contributions and by allowing them to use the elegantly refurbished Rocky Mountaineer Station building for fundraising events.  Some of the organizations who receive contributions from Armstrong Group include:
