In 1987, the World Commission on Environment and Development defined sustainable development as: “Development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” Through Caretakers, Armstrong Group is dedicated to the “triple bottom line” - all of our policies and programs take into consideration the economic, social and environmental impacts of our actions. |
This emphasis on environmental stewardship, corporate social responsibility and economic sustainability has led to the establishment of the following objectives for Armstrong Group:
- To contribute to the economic and social well being of the regions in which we operate leading to developing positive long-term relationships with key community stakeholders.
- To take significant steps to protect the environment through which we travel and contribute to the protection of Canada’s natural resources.
- To develop programs and policies that support and acknowledge the history of Canada’s heritage in the regions in which Armstrong Group operates.
- To support and enhance employee retention programs that allow Armstrong Group to recruit, hire and retain the best employees and be an employer of choice in the tourism sector.
- To educate our employees, guests and suppliers about our sustainability goals and objectives and encourage their participation.
- To be a role model in the North American tourism sector for sustainability goals and objectives and participate in the mentoring of other organizations.
To achieve these goals and objectives, Caretakers works with a large number of people to develop practices and partnerships in communities in which we operate.
