COVID-19 Rapid Screening Program

All guests travelling on our Canadian routes are required to complete a rapid screening test before boarding the train. Rapid screening is an important part of our health and safety program in 2021 to ensure that all guests feel comfortable and confident when travelling with us.

Last updated – September 21, 2021: The information below outlines our planned procedures for the start of our operations in July. As the travel season continues, protocols and procedures may be adapted or changed to adhere to evolving travel regulations and conditions. Please check this webpage before you travel with us for the most up-to-date information. All guests are required to follow our health and safety protocols, including those who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.  

What You Need To Do

1) Register for your rapid screening

We recommend that you complete the online HSX registration process in advance, to provide a more efficient experience when you arrive for your screening test.

You and each of your travel party will need to register separately, with your own individual email address or phone number. This will ensure we can record and share results confidentially with you and each member of your party. 

Once registered, you will receive a QR code that you can save to your phone, email to yourself, or save as a PDF to print. When you arrive at our Guest Centre, you can display this QR code to identify yourself in our system. If you do not have the QR code available our team will be able to look up your registration details. You will also be able to register at the Guest Centre if you have not done so in advance. 


2) Arrive at the Rocky Mountaineer Guest Centre the evening before your train departure

Make your own way to the Rocky Mountaineer Guest Centre, the evening before your train departure*. Please check the Guest Centre information page for details of locations and hours. If you are unable to attend the Guest Centre the evening before your departure, please contact our team as soon as possible by phone at 1.800.653.4105 or by email at

At the Guest Centre, our team will assist you through the rapid screening process and answer any questions you may have. Please remember to bring a face covering to wear, and maintain a physical distance between your travel party and any other guests on site.  

The registration process includes the completion of a health check questionnaire. Please note that, while you are welcome to register at any time in advance of your travel, you will be asked to complete the health check questionnaire again when you arrive at the Guest Centre if your previous questionnaire was submitted more than 24 hours prior. This is to ensure we have up to date responses when you arrive for your screening. 

*If you are travelling on a Circle Journey, you must complete a rapid COVID-19 screening test the evening prior to your train departure for both routes. 


3) Complete your rapid screening test 

Once our team has confirmed your registration details and the responses to your health check questionnaire, they will provide you with a sterile swab and a tube. You will be asked to collect your own sample, by placing the swab approximately 1 – 2 centimetres into each nostril and rotating. This should not cause any pain. You will place the swab in the tube, which will be collected by a trained Rocky Mountaineer team member for analysis. While the sample is analyzed, you will be asked to take a seat in the waiting area for 15 minutes.  


4) Receive your rapid screening test result  

You will receive your results by email and text message (if you provided a Canadian mobile phone number when registering). Free WiFi is available in all our Guest Centres. If you do not have a mobile device, you can speak with one of our team members after the 15-minute waiting period is complete and they will confirm your result. 

Once you have received a negative result from your rapid screening test, you will be able to depart the Guest Centre and continue on with your evening. 


5) Board the train

The following morning, as your board your motorcoach transfer or arrive at the Vancouver Station, our team will confirm that you have completed the rapid screening and that your responses to the health check questionnaire have not changed.
