Rocky Mountaineer announces partnership with Alstom to completely revitalize its SilverLeaf fleet of rolling stock

Vancouver, BC and San Francisco, CA — March 16, 2015 — Rocky Mountaineer announced a strategic partnership with Alstom to rejuvenate the luxury tourist rail company’s fleet of domed SilverLeaf rail cars. The project requires Rocky Mountaineer cars to be stripped to their frame and trucks and entirely re-engineered; producing newly refurbished train cars that will be added to the Rocky Mountaineer fleet.

The engineering and design process was completed in 2015 and resulted in a complete interior renovation to upgrade the cars in terms of technology, comfort and aesthetic. The cars are custom built by Alstom with the signature oversized windows, luxurious seating and state of the art mechanical systems.

“We underwent extensive research to understand what our guests require to be completely comfortable and have every amenity available at their seat,” said Gord Miller, VP of rail operations and asset development, Rocky Mountaineer. “Alstom is a leader in train car builds and often at the helm of new developments in engineering. After much consideration and evaluation of prospective partners, Alstom had the expertise to produce the best possible SilverLeaf cars.”

“Alstom has a strong history providing services to rail customers and we are delighted to be working with Rocky Mountaineer on this project,” said Bernd Burgstahler, Managing Director, Services, North America for Alstom. “Rebuilding Rocky Mountaineer’s cars will allow them to continue to provide the unique and luxurious experience and service their guests have come to expect.”

An open house event for trade partners and media will be held at the Alstom facility in Vallejo, CA on Friday, March 18th,2016 between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m before the rail cars make their way to Vancouver in time for Rocky Mountaineer’s season launch in April. Alstom has completed three rail cars and will have finished six rail cars by the start of the 2017 season.
