Time Zones

Vancouver, Kamloops, Quesnel, Whistler, and Las Vegas are in the Pacific Time Zone. Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper, Calgary, Moab, Glenwood Springs, Denver, and Salt Lake City are in the Mountain Time Zone (MT), one hour ahead of Pacific Time (PT). Please note: 7:00 am PT is 8:00 am MT.

Hotel Incidentals

Upon checking in to your hotel in each destination, please stop by the hotel Front Desk to provide a credit card in the case of incidental charges such as meals, alcoholic beverages, long-distance calls, room service, damage deposits, and other hotel charges. 

Tours & Transfers

Depending on the package you have booked, tours and/or transfers may be included as part of your Rocky Mountaineer journey. Please refer to your confirmation documents provided at the time of booking, or your final travel documents, to confirm if your package includes tours and/or transfers. 

If your booking does not already include tours or transfers, click here to view our curated list of optional add-ons that can be added to your itinerary. 

Please note: gratuities have not been included for driver guides, tour escorts, or hotel porters. If you are travelling on an escorted tour, we recommend checking with your Tour Director to confirm if gratuities have already been included for certain services.

Vancouver, British Columbia
Surrounded by stunning natural beauty, Vancouver is considered to be one of the most desirable places to live or visit in the world. Banff, Alberta
The town of Banff is named after Banffshire in Scotland, the birthplace of two major financiers of the Canadian Pacific Railway. Nestled into the Bow Valley corridor within Banff National Park, highlights include the iconic Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel, bustling Banff Avenue, Bow River, the Sulphur Mountain Gondola, and Bow Falls.

Lake Louise, Alberta
Known to the Stoney First Nation as Lake of the Little Fishes and called Emerald Lake by its first European visitor in 1882, Lake Louise was renamed in 1884 to honour Princess Louise Caroline Alberta, daughter of Queen Victoria. The village of Lake Louise offers a range of lodging, dining, and shopping. From the village it is a ten minute drive to the lake. Please note, if you plan to dine at The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, it is recommended to make dining reservations by calling 403.522.1818 within 7 days prior to your arrival.

Jasper, Alberta
Jasper is a small town of 4,700 people tucked away in the mountains of the Canadian Rockies. Located on a plateau overlooking the Athabasca Valley, it commands a view of the Colin Range to the east and the jagged peaks along the Icefield Parkway to the south. Snow-capped Mount Edith Cavell, one of the most prominent mountains, is the centerpiece of the alpine skyline. North of the town, Pyramid Mountain towers above Pyramid and Patricia Lakes, summer boating, and picnic sites.

Midpoint Destinations

As the train travels during daylight only, every rail journey includes overnight accommodation at a mid-point destination in either Kamloops*, Whistler and Quesnel, or Glenwood Springs. 

Kamloops, British Columbia
Kamloops is located in the heart of the Thompson Okanagan region of British Columbia between Vancouver and the Canadian Rockies. The name is derived from a Shuswap word meaning “meeting of the waters” because the city is nestled at a point in the valley where the North and South Thompson rivers meet. A complimentary shuttle service may be available to the downtown core if your hotel is not within walking distance. Please check the schedule with your hotel.

Overnight Hotel Accommodations in Kamloops, Quesnel, and Glenwood Springs

Rocky Mountaineer has secured the best available accommodation in Kamloops, Quesnel, and Glenwood Springs for our guests. You will stay in moderate two- or three-star accommodation with essential amenities and great service. While these accommodations are clean and comfortable, they may not be as luxurious as those in other destinations on your journey. Please note that specific room types cannot be guaranteed due to availability in these destinations. Your Kamloops, Quesnel, or Glenwood Springs accommodation will be shown on your boarding pass. Your boarding pass will be provided when you check in to board the Rocky Mountaineer train. 


*Circumstances may necessitate the occasional accommodation change from Kamloops to the surrounding area or the nearby resort of Sun Peaks.
